The latest international airline to announce new flights to Tehran and Iran is the Thai national flag carrier, Thai Airways.
Already in February 2016 the airline announced their interest in entering the Iranian market. The route from Bangkok to Tehran will start on the 1st of October 2016 with 4 weekly flights according to Nikkei Asian Review
A few weeks ago, Thai AirAsia X announced Tehran as their latest destination. The service will run 3 times weekly.
The people there are wealthy and very sophisticated, Executive Vice President Teerapol Chotichanapibal told Nikkei Asian Review about Iran. He said a team that went to Tehran returned “really excited” about prospects.
The traffic between Iran and Thailand has seen a rapid growth. Mahan Air recently increased its weekly flights to the capital from 5 to 6 weekly. The airline also inked several agreements with Thailand to expand their cooperation in the field of tourism. A second Iranian carrier, Qeshm Air, is also operational on the same route during uncertain periods. Now, Thai AirAsia X and Thai Airways will contibute with new capacity, increasing the weekly flights up to 12 weekly.
