Freebird Airlines has launched the very first direct service from Tehran to Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport . The Turkish based company landed its first flight from Tehran at 12:30 local time with 174 passengers on board an Airbus A320. This route will be operational during the entire Nouroz season. Nouroz is Iran’s busiest travelling period with over 19,500 flights planned.
Freebird Airlines operates besides the Alanya route from Tehran, as well as flights to Adana, Gaziantep, Izmir and Bursa during Nouroz.
The inaugural flight was welcomed by water arches on the apron and the passengers were greeted by TAV Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport and Freebird Airlines executives at a cocktail reception.
TAV endeavors to increase direct flights to Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport and continues promotion and marketing activities in order to contribute to the development of the tourism potential in the region. We are glad to host flights from Tehran at Gazipaşa-Alanya as part of our collaboration with Freebird Airlines, which is the 19th airline company launching flights to our airport. We will continue working to expand the flight network of Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport and develop tourism, TAV Gazipaşa Operations Deputy Coordinator Murat Şen stated.
Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport handles around 19 airlines on both domestic and international flights to 25 destinations worldwide. The airport is still small compared to what it can achieve, mostly becuase of it not being well established following the opening in 2010. The bigger city in the west, Antalya, still holds the major of the flights with passengers having Alanya as a final destination. The passengers are accordingly transferred from the airport to Alanya by bus or taxi. In 2015, the ariport hosted some 6,510 flights with 915,000 passengers.
