Iran Air has planned to increase flights to a few European destinations. After the purchase of 118 Airbus aircraft, the CEO of Iran Air announced its big expansion plans. Amsterdam and Frankfurt were destinations that two of the destinations that will get their flights to Tehran increased from 2 respective 3, to 5 weekly. Although these plans are not fulfilled yet. Two other destinations that are confirmed are Cologne and London.
Iran Air which previously operated the Tehran – London route 3 times weekly decresed the numbers after EU’s desicion to ban all Iran Air’s older aircraft, including the Boeing 747 which were deployed on many European routes. Nevertheless, as of 27th March 2016 Iran Air will increase the London flights from 2 to 3 weekly. It should be noted that British Airways also will resume its flights to Tehran operated by Boeing 777 from this summer. The total weekly flights from Tehran to London will by then have increased from 2 to 10 weekly.
The airline’s flights from Tehran to Cologne will also increase, from 1 to 2 weekly with the first day being 29th March 2016. The Cologne route has previously been increased to 2 weekly especially for the summer season. It is yet unclear whether this increase also is temporary for the summer season, or permanently.
