Since 2012 there has not been a direct route from Iran to Japan after Iran Air cut their flights from Tehran to Tokyo.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Iran Air is set to resume a one weekly service from Tehran to Tokyo-Narita as soon as the new aircraft are delivered from Airbus. However, the flight to Tokyo will be an extra leg on the already existing Tehran – Beijing route operated by B747. The flight route would look like Tehran – Beijing – Tokyo – Tehran.
An anonymous source also told Bloomberg that Iran and Japan are discussing to allow multiple airlines to operated direct flights between the two countries.
Additionally, Mahan Air and an unknown Japanese airline have plans to establish a connection between the two capitals.
