The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) Dubai Office, in cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran and Mahan Air, hosted a familiarisation trip for 26 travel agents from Tehran and four social media influencers based in Iran in a bid to highlight Thailand as a Muslim and family friendly destination.
The TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing explained that Iran is seen as one of the most dynamic markets in the region and that Iranian tourism in Thailand has shown an incredicble development over the last few years. She further explained that Thailand has always been seen, and still is seen, as one of the top destinations for Iranians.
During the event, more than 55 Thai representatives from the tourism industry attended. The TAT Director explained that the idea is to promote Thailand as a Muslim friendly destination, with highlight on luxury, family and couples activity. Only during January – November 2015, 82,404 Iranians traveled to Thailand, noting a 30% increase.
Both Mahan Air and the Thai Tourism Authority hope that the travelling between the two countries will increase and reach higher levels. As of 1 March 2016, Mahan Air will add a flight per week to the existing five, making it six weekly flights to Bangkok.
