Iran Air and Lufthansa Announce Codeshare Agreement

Iran Air and Lufthansa have signed an agreement to let the Iranian national carrier to codeshare on the latter’s flights to and from Iran.

Currently, Lufthansa operates one daily flight from Frankfurt and three weekly flights from Munich to Tehran. The routes are operated by B747-400 and A330-300 respectively.

Iran Air flight number IR1600 and IR1601 will be placed on Lufthansa’s flight LH600 and LH601 on the Frankfurt – Tehran – Frankfurt route. Iran Air flight number IR1602 and IR1603 will be placed on Lufthansa’s flight LH602 and LH603 on the Munich – Tehran – Munich route.

The codeshare agreement will offer additional travel opportunities for our customers locally and around the world on Lufthansa services to and from Tehran, Iran Air and Lufthansa said in a joint statement.

The codeshare agreement will take effect on 18 January 2017 and the very first Lufthansa-operated flight with Iran Air codeshare is set to depart Frankfurt on 1 February 2017.

Since years back, Iran Air and Austrian Airlines, a member of Lufthansa Group, have a codeshare agreement on flights to Europe.

A codeshare flight is a flight where two or more airlines “share”, own the rights to, the same flight. In this case, Iran Air is entitled to market the Lufthansa-operated flights to and from Iran as their own.
